P&G’s Health and Beauty Care Research & Development Headquarters in Europe is based in Egham, Surrey. It became part of the P&G organisation following the acquisition of the Richardson Vicks company in 1985. Since that time, many innovative products and technologies in both Beauty and Healthcare have been developed at the site, e.g. Olay Facial Cloths and the new Pantene Pro-Health amino-acid technology.
Around 750 people work at the site, most of them scientists. Their expertise covers a wide variety of disciplines, including chemistry, biology, microbiology, and the physiology of skin and hair. There are also many technical engineers working on projects such as the development of Crest toothbrushes for the global market.
P&G’s first technical centre in Europe began in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1957. Since then, it has played an important role in the development of new technologies and processes for our laundry powder and automatic dishwasher detergent categories. At this site, a global laundry process innovation group works closely with washing machine manufacturers to optimise test methodologies for consumer learning, focusing and increasing the pace of product design.
There is no shortage of expertise available on site. Product technologies such as surface active ingredients, polymers and bleaches, as well as process technologies for powder laundry detergents - powder processing, mixing, agglomeration and spray drying - are handled here. Additionally, the site houses the Company’s largest pilot spray drying tower. Around 300 people work at the site. |
