October 25, 2004. Procter & Gamble regularly donates all
kinds of products to the charity
In Kind Direct, who in turn
distributes them to hundreds
of other UK charities that
are doing good work at home
and abroad.
Each month, In Kind Direct produces a catalogue of available
goods from which groups in
its network can request items.
“As soon as Ariel, Charmin, Pampers, Fairy and all of P&G’s
other fantastic products go
on our list, the phones are
red hot with charities ringing to request them.” says Chief
Executive Robin Boles. “Our charity partners can receive a
great variety of everyday essentials through In Kind Direct.
It means they’re able to stretch their funds up to ten times
further, leaving more to spend on their core activities.”
 All
sizes and types of charities
throughout the UK benefit
from P&G’s generosity,
from groups working
in the fields of sickness & disability
and housing & homelessness,
to women’s support services,
and family welfare.
One such family welfare
charity is Gingerbread
Crawley, part of the
self-help support group
for lone parents. Joanne
Dines, who chairs the
Crawley branch is very
enthusiastic, “The P&G
products are our favourites
- just the things we
need, and of so much
use to our families.
Buying washing powder
and cleaning materials
can be expensive and
we’re able to make big
savings through In Kind
Direct.” She adds, “For
single parents, some
with four children,
it makes a very real
difference.”

The brainchild of HRH The Prince of Wales, In Kind Direct
was set up to provide an organised way for companies to give
their quality surplus to good causes. Some prefer to send seconds,
samples, ends of lines, and slow moving stock, to In Kind Direct,
rather than run the risk of them appearing on market stalls
or in car boot sales. All the charities belonging to the In
Kind Direct network contractually agree not to sell, barter
or trade the goods they receive, so that donor companies are
reassured the products are going to good causes.
At In Kind Direct’s warehouse in Accrington, the donated goods
are sorted and made up into
packs of suitable sizes for the groups receiving them. They
are then delivered straight to the charities’ doors, wherever
that may be. It’s all part of the service from In Kind Direct,
the charities’ charity.
