Procter & Gamble Helping Community and Employees Affected by Katrina

CINCINNATI , Sept. 2, 2005 – The Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) announced today it has increased its contribution to Hurricane Katrina aid to $1 million in product and cash donations to The American Red Cross and America’s Second Harvest. Product donations are staged and ready for delivery as soon as the infrastructure can accept them. The company had previously committed over $700,000. Pampers® diapers and wipes are among the latest products being donated. Also, the Iams Company, a P&G subsidiary, will provide food for sheltered and stray animals in the area.

P&G also is assisting employees impacted by the disaster. It has set up a special fund to assist its roughly 550 employees at four coffee production and storage facilities in the New Orleans region, as well as sales employees in the affected areas. As of 3:00 p.m. ET on Sept. 2, the company has confirmed the safety of about 350 of its employees.

In response to employee requests to be able to help their colleagues, the company is establishing P&G Employee Hurricane Relief Funds that will accept donations from P&G’s 110,000 employees worldwide. Employee contributions will be matched by the company’s global coffee business unit and the North American Market Development organization that have provided $250,000 in seed money to get the fund started. These funds will be used to make direct contributions to employees as well as community organizations serving P&Gers, their families and their neighbors. The company also is providing a $5,000 interest-free loan to any affected employee to help them get back on their feet.

“We’ve never faced a situation quite like this,” said Charlotte R. Otto, P&G’s global external relations officer. “Many of the P&G employees in the Hurricane Katrina area have lost their homes and their possessions. These fellow employees are family to us. P&Gers want to help them through this tragedy.”

Special Hotline For Affected P&G Employees
P&G said it is increasing efforts to reach all of its employees from the affected area. The company has set up a special toll-free employee hotline (1-866-345-0395) and is asking P&G employees, who work in the New Orleans area, and who have not already contact the company, to call the hotline.

“The safety and well-being of our employees is our number one priority,” said Ms. Otto. “We realize that communication in the area is a major challenge right now, but we’re working to locate each of our employees,” she said.

Impact on The Business/Operations
P&G said it is too early to assess the impact of Hurricane Katrina on the business and its facilities. The company has not yet been able to access all of its operations and expects it will take a week or more to complete the assessment.
